Production inventory with service time and interruptions

چکیده
In all the studies on inventory systems prior to Berman et al [8], it was assumed that the serving of inventory is instantaneous. However this is not the case in many practical situations. For example in a TV showroom, a customer usually spends some time with the salesperson before buying the TV or in a computer shop, after selecting the model, one might have to wait until all the required software are installed. In Berman et al [8] it has been assumed that the amount of time taken to serve an item is constant. This leads to the analysis of a queue of demands formed in an inventory system. This study was followed by numerous studies by several researchers on many kinds of inventory models with positive service time. Krishnamoorthy and Viswanath [47] introduced the idea of positive service time in to a production inventory model by considering MAP arrivals and a correlated production process. This model being a very general one as far as the modeling parameters are considered, only a numerical study of the model was carried out there. In a very recent paper by Krishnamoorthy and Viswanath [48], assuming all the underlying distributions as exponential, a

Perishable Inventory System with Server Interruptions, Multiple Server Vacations, and N Policy
This article presents a perishable inventory system under continuous review at a service facility in which a waiting area for customers is of finite size M . The authors assume that the replenishment of inventory is instantaneous. The items of inventory have exponential life times. It is assumed that demand for the commodity is of unit size. The service starts only when the customer level reach...
متن کاملThe Effects of Low Inventory on the Development of Productivity Norms
Low inventory, a crucial part of just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing systems, enjoys increasing application worldwide, yet the behavioral effects of such systems remain largely unexplored. Operations research (OR) models of low-inventory systems typically use a simplifying assumption that processing times of individual workers are independent random variables. This leads to predictions that low-in...
متن کاملAutonomic Resource Management for Multimedia Services Using Inventory Control
The proliferation of real-time multimedia services has triggered attempts by service providers to seek ways to reduce the cost of managing those services, while satisfying customer demands for the resources involved in the service delivery. A key issue is to avoid costly service interruptions in such real-time multimedia services. In this paper, we propose the use of the inventory control appro...
متن کاملAnalysis of two production inventory systems with buffer, retrials and different production rates
This paper considers the comparison of two ðs; SÞ production inventory systems with retrials of unsatisfied customers. The time for producing and adding each item to the inventory is exponentially distributed with rate b. However, a production rate ab higher than b is used at the beginning of the production. The higher production rate will reduce customers’ loss when inventory level appro...
متن کاملApplication of queuing theory in production-inventory optimization
This paper presents a mathematical model for an inventory control system in which customers’ demands and suppliers’ service time are considered as stochastic parameters. The proposed problem is solved through queuing theory for a single item. In this case, transitional probabilities are calculated in steady state. Afterward, the model is extended to the case of multi-item inventory systems. The...
